Genital warts as well as any STD is passed by unprotected (condom) intimate contact with bodily fluids of a infected partner.

Genital Warts are caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is sexually transmitted - including anal and oral sex.

Genital wart is is a STD so you can only get it through sex. You cannot get it through kissing someone

Skin to skin contact with an infected person, so even rubbing genitals without penetration can put you at risk. Using a condom is thought to lower the risk. Unfortunately, a condom does not cover all of the genital area so it is still possible to catch even if you use condoms. Condoms are great protection for most STIs like HIV, chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea.

like 22 said, u *can* catch genital warts through skin-to-skin contact with the genital area. Basically if it is covered by underwear, it is a potential source of the disease. Condoms obviously do not prevent this, but they do protect agains other nasty STDs.

You do *NOT* need to have sex to contract HPV, & it is most cewrtainly NOT spread through bodily fluids.

Rarely, u can get warts on the mouth, & they're now seeing a correlation between high-risk HPV infections & throat cancers in non-smokers.
