l received a call from my doctor about two weeks ago letting me know that l had HPV.At the time l was at the gym with a friend so l could not ask many questions.l called back the next day to ask questions.Her assistant called me back and told me to not be alarmed.She said many women get this, in fact she had one before.She said that procedure is a little painful but pretty simple.l am getting the colposcopy done in two days and am sooo nervous.l believe the doctor said l have low risk but cant remember.Does this mean l have genital warts? l have never had any signs of genital warts nor has my boyfriend. l feel so ashamed and disgusting.l have tons of questions for the doctor but do not know where to start.If anyone can recommend any questions to ask the doctor that would be great! l am so scarred...please help!

HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that can potentially cause Cervical cancer. It has nothing to do with genital warts. Get the colposcopy as instructed by your doctor and once it is certain that you're okay, they will give you antivirals.

Low risk does not MEAN u have genital warts, but it could lead to them.

Men can transmit HPV to women, there is no test for HPV in men.


The procedure is a bit uncomfortable but not terribly painful from what our patients say. No one has ever left in tears or anything.

Make sure u continue to follow up with ur Dr as she recommends, often times it resolves on its own within a couple of years.

There r more than 100 types of human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Of them, about 40 types of HPV affect ur genitals or sex organs, & can cause genital warts, for example. 10-30 strains can lead to cervical cancer. The remainder can cause to skin infections & common warts on ur hands & feet.

Your immune system is very capable of getting rid of them. The thing to do is to address ur immune system & make it strong. Drugs & the like will treat symptoms, but do u a lot of harm, generally. l would ask what specific strain u have & go from there in terms of deciding what to do specifically. Ask ur doctor what he recommends & then do ur homework before doing anything about it first. Do not take their advise as the last word. Medicine is not perfect & u need to be informed before just letting them treat you.

Just so u know, about 60% of ALL Americans have HPV. 90% of women infected, HPV clears up on its own within two years, at which point ur cervical cells go back to normal. It is only when the HPV virus lingers for many years that these abnormal cells could turn into cancer.

well..first try to calm down & if the dr said u r low risk then yes u have the hpv that causes genital warts the only good thing l know about the low risk is that it will ''cure'' itself over time with most people

l have HPV. Who knows how long l been having it for. (well since l been sexually active).. l had a procedure done called LEEP. It scrapes off all the bad cells in order good ones to take over which this will help me get rid of HPV (hopefully). Do not get me wrong there is no cure for HPV. The doctor just told me the procedure could help me. l research the LEEP procedure & some said they only felt pain when the put the injection to numb the area. Thank god l was put asleep!!! l was nervous.but all the nurse told me was take a deep breath & close ur eyes.and that was it!!! . l went back after 3 months for my pap smear & it came out negative... The doctor does not want to see me till 6 more months which im guessing its a good thing. In order to get rid of HPV ur body has to fight it off. Eat healthy, exercise, & take vitamins. This will help!!!
