l already have genital herpes. l do not know if l can also get the oral herpes? Can l only have either one?

You can have either one or both. HSV-1 causes cold sores, and a majority of the human population actually do have a latent infection. They just do not break out in cold sores often because their immune system represses it. Folks can also have HSV-2 and not suffer outbreaks either. And of course, folks can have both.

You can have both HSV1 and HSV2

If you are + for HSV2, you more then likely will not contract HSV1. Because HSV2 is dominant over HSV1

Just remember the HSV2 can also be found orally. Not very common though.

In saying that, it is possible you could contract HSV1 if you come in contact with someone who is HSV1+

HSV-1 and HSV-2 can live in either area of your body (genitals and oral) and you can have them at the same time. They are two strains of the same virus. It was once believed that if you had HSV-1 it was oral and HSV-2 was genital, but that belief has been proven wrong. To determine the actual type you have you can get a blood test, but it will only tell you the type(s) not the areas affected by them.

l do not believe that having one type makes u less likely to get the other type because l have both types. l have oral herpes on my mouth & genitals. l have oral herpes & genital herpes on my genitals.
symptoms for oral herpes r burning, tingling & or itching dry, chapped skin all at one spot (usually) on the mouth. keep track of whats going on with ur body & if u have any symptoms then get tested for oral herpes.
symptoms for genital herpes are: fells like ur getting thebeggingg of the flu, swollen genitals, itching burning & ortinglingg sensations under the skin of the genitals. redness, burning or trouble when peeing, blisters, sores or cut like things appear on the genitals.
for both types symptoms usuallyoccure about a month or longer after being with an infected person. if have any of those symptoms then get tested for genital herpes.
