I am seeing my doctor tomorrow and hoping he can answer some of my questions. l know we would both probably need some shots but what about when we're over there if he gets a cold? Has anyone moved young children to Africa (Zambia in particular) before?
Of course I am not worried about that! l am just concerned because it is a third world country and l know children catch malaria from mosquito bites. l do not know whether the health system is sub-standard.

My youngest daughter travelled to Africa (Gabon) when she was 10 days old. We could not get her to open her eyes for the passport photo, but that was the only problem.

Of course, she used a crib with a mosquito net from floor to ceiling.

The only compulsory shot u need is Yellow Fever. Good shots to have r hepatitis & TABC.

If u r travelling to Africa with an expat or NGO employment contract, u will have access to (rather) good medical facilities. Make sure u have medical repatriation insurance.

We had brought a family medical dictionary & we used it for small ailments (colds, small wounds, stomach ache, .).

My best advice is: contact other expat mothers & talk to them when u arrive.
