l just read from numerous sources that if you have HSV-1 virus (cold sores) it is unlikely your partner can give you genital herpes orally from his/her mouth. Can anyone validate this or confirm it? l know oral cold sores can be passed on your partners genitals, but is it true that if you already have HSV-1 you have less of a chance of getting on your genitals from oral sex???

It is true.

Most oral herpes is type 1, hsv-1.

So if u have hsv-1 orally & ur partner has hsv-1 orally, u will produce antibodies to hsv-1 which greatly reduce ur chances of catching hsv-1 genitally if ur partner gives u oral sex.

It can happen, but it is very rare. If someone has the same virus in two locations, they generally got it in the second location during the primary outbreak or the first few months of the first location, before they had built up antibodies to the virus.

l have genital hsv-1 & my boyfriend has oral hsv-1. Since l have caught it from him, although on the whole we have been careful, we have had unprotected intercourse on a couple of occasions while l have been having an outbreak, & l have accidentally kissed him while he has had a cold sore. We have not caught it in a second place.
